Father Quinn Cup 2017

8 03 2017

Fr. Peter Quinn and Fr. Des Quinn  are famous brothers who attended Behy N.S. in the 1930’s/ 1940’s. They have contributed enormously to the school down through the years. Fr. Peter played on the Mayo team that won the all-Ireland in 1950 and 1951.

For the 3rd year, Boys and girls from 3rd- 6th class competed for their areas for the Fr. Quinn Cups. The teams were: Cluain na Rí, Corrimbla, Greenhills and Knocknalyre.

The competition ran from Monday 6th March with the finals on  Thursday 16th March.

The Girls winners for the 3rd year in-a-row- were Knocknalyre! The Boys of Cluain na rí were winners for the first-time!

Previous winners were Knocknalyre boys and Knocknalyre girls (2016)

Previous winners were Corrimbla boys and Knocknalyre girls (2015)

Well done to everyone! We continued to honour Fr. Peter and Fr. Des’ memory by playing some good football. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam. Rest in Peace.

Girls Gaelic football 2016-2017

30 01 2017

Well done to our brilliant girls team who had a great run in the Mini 7’s Gaelic football competition in 2016-2017. The girls won their group in Ardnaree with wins over Breaffy and Scoil Iosa. The girls then qualified for the Semi- Final. They had a great win over Lahardane in the Semi -Final and met the Quay N.S in the North- Mayo Final. The girls played excellently in the final and were unfortunate to lose by 3 points to the eventual County Mayo winners. Well done girls!

In the Cumann na mBunscol competition, the girls recorded a very good win away in Belmullet in their first match winning by 1 point. They lost to Rehins in their second match on a disappointed day in Ardnaree. In a closely fought must-win game in Knockmore, the girls gave everything but unfortunately lost by 1 point to Currabaggan. The fourth and final game, held in Ardnaree, was a game of 2 halves. The all- 5th girls team played really well in the 1st half but trailed at half- time. In the second half, the big guns Milly, Anna and Aimee from 6th class came off the bench and fought back bravely assisted by the younger team players from 4th. They recorded a great win for Behy in their final game for the school. Well done girls! You should be very proud on training so hard, having a terrific attitude, playing so well and creating an excellent team spirit!

A Massive congratulations from everyone in Behy to Ardnaree Sarsfields who are County Club Champions and Connacht Club Champions for 2015! They now go in search of All- Ireland glory in 2016.

The Ardnaree team were hugely impressive throughout the Championship of 2015. On Sunday 21st October, the club won their first County title since 1971, and in some style, beating Killala on a scoreline of 6-14 to 0-7.

On Sunday 15th November, Ardnaree continued their historic run by capturing the Connacht Crown against Clifden of Galway in the Connacht final winning on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-7.

It has been a fantastic year for the club with the team securing 1B league status, the Ardnaree Minor team winning a County Championship and the Ardnaree u-21’s have now reached the County Final also.

We wish them all continued success, especially all the team members who are past- pupils of Behy! Hon the Ree!

North Mayo Final 2015

26 05 2015

North Mayo Final, Behy v Rehins, Thursday 21st May 2015 , 6.00p.m., Scoil Padraig, Ballina

Behy girls lost out to a strong Rehins side in the North Mayo final but only just. The Behy team were well supported by pupils, teachers, parents and friends. This was to be a game of two halves. Behy got off to a terrific start with a great team goal finished off by Anna in the forwards. Behy’s defence of Mia, Elisha and Sharde defended very well early on and it took Rehins time to get a hold on the game. When they eventually did they scored well and led by 15 points at half time. But Behy were not going to be beaten that easily.

The girls never gave up, never gave in and did not quit. Behy came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. Shauna and Milly drove from all angles at midfield with Aoibheann, Rebecca and Leah combining excellently as a team. The girls were on fire and seriously outgunned and outplayed the Rehins girls. The momentum that was building up was dashed twice with two fortuitous Rehins goals. There was 5 points in the difference in the end.

The Behy girls can be extremely proud of themselves. They worked so hard over the past few months and have improved no end as players and as a team. As coach and on behalf of the team I would like to thank all the supporters, pupils, teachers, parents and friends of Behy. We would like to wish the Rehins girls the best of luck in the County Semi- Final and the rest of the competition.

Team: Shauna, Sharde, Mia, Elisha, Aoibheann, Milly, Anna, Leah, Rebecca (C). Subs: Erin, Chloe, Jade, Michaela, Charlotte, Sophie, Kathlin, Aimee, Aoibhe.
